The Syracuse Orange women’s basketball team (16-4, 5-2 ACC) remains a top-20 team checking in at No. 18 in this week’s Associated Press (AP) Top 25 Poll. Off the heels of a 1-1 week, including a victory over Duke on Sunday, the Orange slid five spots from last week’s No. 13 mark.
After losing its first home game of the season to No. 23 Miami, 84-71, Syracuse traveled to Duke Sunday where the Orange earned their first win at Cameron Indoor Stadium in program history. ‘Cuse erased an 11-point second half deficit sparked by a 20-point performance by redshirt sophomore Kiara Lewis. Lewis tallied 15 points in the third quarter en route to leading the Orange to a 64-55 win.
The Orange are joined by four other ACC teams in this week’s poll – including Louisville (No. 2), Notre Dame (No. 5), North Carolina State (No. 7), and Florida State (No. 24). Atlantic Coast Conference foes Miami and Clemson both received votes.
Syracuse returns home for six out of its next seven games. First up, ‘Cuse takes on Virginia (8-12, 2-5) Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Carrier Dome. The Orange lead the all-time series 5-4 and have won five of the last six meetings over the Cavaliers since 2012.
