(SYRACUSE ATHLETICS 7/3/19) — Orange placekicker Andre Szmyt (Vernon Hills, Ill.) and safety Andre Cisco (Valley Stream, N.Y.) were voted to the 2019 Sporting News Preseason All-America First Team on Wednesday, July 3.

For Szmyt, it’s his fifth preseason first-team All-America nod of the summer. He was previously named a preseason first-team All-American by Athlon, Lindy’s, Street & Smith’s and Phil Steele. Cisco has now earned preseason first-team All-America recognition from four selectors (Lindy’s, Street & Smith’s, Phil Steele, Sporting News).

Syracuse is one of four schools with multiple Sporting News Preseason All-America First Team selections. The other three are: Clemson (3), Alabama (2) and Wisconsin (2).

A 2018 unanimous All-American, Szmyt led the FBS in most kicking categories last season, including connecting on an ACC-record 30 field goals. He also hit all 61 of his point-after attempts to finish with a Syracuse single-season record 151 points in 13 games. Szmyt’s average of 11.6 points per contest led the country.

Cisco tied for the national lead with seven interceptions last season on his way to second-team All-America honors. The ACC’s Defensive Rookie of the Year, Cisco set the program record for most passes defended by a true freshman (18) and ranked fourth on the team with 60 tackles (46 solo).

Syracuse is set to begin preseason camp in August. The Orange kick off the 2019 campaign at Liberty on Saturday, Aug. 31 and open their home schedule on Saturday, Sept. 14 versus Clemson.

Season and single-game tickets are on sale now online (Cuse.com/tickets), by phone (888-DOME-TIX) or in person at the Dome Box Office located in the Ensley Athletic Center. Season tickets start at $125.

Syracuse’s single-game ticket allotment for the Clemson game is sold out. The only way to guarantee a seat to watch the Orange and Tigers is through the purchase of a season ticket.
