SYRACUSE, N.Y. (SYRACUSE ATHLETICS) –
The 11-time NCAA Champion Syracuse men’s lacrosse team is in the NCAA Tournament for the 39th time.
‘Cuse will play at No. 8 seed Loyola in the first round of the tournament on Saturday at Noon at Ridey Athletic Complex. It’s the 12th-straight NCAA Tournament bid and 36th in the last 37 seasons.
Syracuse owns the third-most appearances (39) and second-most wins (68) of any program in NCAA history.
‘Cuse is 2-3 all-time when unseeded in the NCAA Tournament, including making a trip to Championship Weekend in 2003 when unseeded. Most recently, the Orange lost at Duke in 2012 when not hosting a first round game.
Syracuse is 3-0 in the NCAA Tournament against the Greyhounds. The Orange most recently played a tournament game against Loyola in the 1999 NCAA Quarterfinal. The Orange have twice faced them in the quarterfinal round and also defeated them in the 1990 NCAA title game. ‘Cuse has never played an NCAA Tournament game at Loyola.
Head Coach John Desko has led the Orange to the NCAA Tournament in 20 of his 21 seasons at the helm of the program, boasting the third-best winning percentage in NCAA Tournament history and is tied with Orange legend Roy Simmons Jr. for the third-most NCAA Tournament wins of any head coach.
