Athlete of the Week: Caleb Thompson

Athlete of the Week

CORTLAND, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — NewsChannel 9’s latest Athlete of the Week, Caleb Thompson, entered the day as Section III’s leader in strikeouts (61).

“Pitching is my favorite thing to do and I want to do that for a long time,” the Cortland senior said.

In just eight games on the mound this year, he’s more than tripled his strikeout count from last year.

“Honestly, I’m just trying to get wins and having the strikeouts is a great thing to have by I’m more focused on winning,” Thompson said.

The Purple Tigers have won 10 of their last 11 games. Thompson himself has a 4-1 record with a 1.9 ERA.

Thompson will go on to play Tompkins-Cortland Community College next season, he knows he’s come a long way — and doesn’t want it to end any time soon.
