EAST SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WYSR-TV) — Lance Madonna has been a part of a culture change at East Syracuse-Minoa.
The Spartans lacrosse team is coming off back-to-back sectional titles, and that’s become the standard for them.
“Coming in freshman year we won. And then sophomore year we won. So it was nothing, I never really thought about winning, but now that’s our standard and we want to win every year,” Madonna said.
Madonna, now a junior, got the chance to play on the same team as his brother, Derrek, during those title runs — something he’ll always remember.
Derrek is now a member of the Hobart lacrosse team. Lance will join him in the college ranks when he joins Richmond in two seasons.
The challenge of another sectional title will be different this year. The Spartans moved down to Class C which is home to past champs like CBA, Westhill, and Jamesville-DeWitt.
“… It will be a lot harder tournament for us this year,” said Madonna. But he believes the team is ready for the challenge.
