Athlete of the Week: West Genesee’s Carly Benson

Athlete of the Week

Our latest Athlete of the Week is one of the best runners West Genesee high school has ever had.

Senior Carly Benson leaves behind a storied career.

Benson has been to state 11 times in five years between cross country and track. She also has seven sectional titles in both the two sports as well.

As an eighth grader, she finished first in the 8th grade mile at the New Balance Nationals and did it again her freshman season during the indoor track season.

In her final year with the Wildcats, Benson broke the school records in the 1,500 meter and 3,000 meter race giving her 17 total school records.

“Its really rewarding especially being my fifth year as a senior to finally get the records and go out good,” says Benson.
