CBA wins state football championship

High School Sports

(WSYR-TV) — Christian Brothers Academy is the New York State Class A football champion. The Brothers defeated Somers High School 32-31 in a thriller at the Carrier Dome Friday afternoon.

Jordan Rae threw for 276 yards and 3 touchdowns to lead the way for CBA. Dan Anderson, who caught a 36-yard TD in the 3rd quarter to give CBA the lead for good, added a rushing TD to his efforts. The key moment in the game came when Somers scored what appeared to be the game-tying TD and extra point with 1:19 left in regulation, but the Tuskers decided to go for a two-point conversion instead. Jason Brunson intercepted the pass attempt to seal the deal for CBA.

Brunson had a 40-yard TD reception, Amari Pitts caught a 55-yd TD and SU-recruit Syair Torrence caught 4 balls for 72 yards. This is CBA’s first state title since 2004.
