High School Sports

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) – For a team that is used to scoring a lot of points, Solvay proved it can win a low scoring game as well.

The Bearcats held off Oneida 14-7 for its third overall Class B Section III championship and first since 2002.

Senior Elijah Wright scored the game’s first touchdown rushing for four yards early in the first to give the Bearcats a 7-0 lead at halftime . Former NewsChannel 9 Athlete of the Week, senior quarterback Brock Bagozzi, connected with junior wide receiver Justin Scott for the game winning touchdown early in the fourth.

Junior running back Drew Smith had the lone touchdown for Oneida.

Solvay will take on Chenango Forks of Section IV in the state regionals on Saturday, November 16th at 3pm at Vestal high school.
