Carthage races past Auburn for Section III Class A football championship

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) –

It took Carthage less than a minute to take the lead in the Section III Class A championship game against Auburn.

The Comets ran back the opening kickoff, and never looked back cruising past the Maroons 55-7 for the Class A title.

Fombo Azah became broke the single-season rushing record for Carthage, running for 249 yards and four touchdowns.

Carthage advances to the NYSPHSAA Class A quarterfinals to face Section IV Champion Union-Endicott. That game will be next Friday night at Vestal High School at 8 p.m.

Auburn also moves on to the NYSPHSAA Class A state quarterfinals. The Maroons will travel to Mahopac High School next Friday to face Section I champion Rye at 7:30 p.m.
