F-M girls lacrosse fall 9-7 in state championship final to Eastport

(WSYR-TV) — The Fayetteville-Manlius girls lacrosse team finished runner-up in the Class B state championship game after losing 9-7 to Eastport-South Manor (Section-XI) on Saturday at SUNY Cortland.

F-M was playing in its fifth state championship game — and second in the last three years.

Eastport (19-2) started off hot with three-straight goals to take a 3-0 lead. The Hornets responded with three goals of their own to tie things up. F-M was down 6-5 going into halftime.

Katie and Kiera Shanley were the only Hornets to score in the second half as the team fell 9-7.
Katie Shanley led the F-M offense with 2 goals and 1 assist and Annie Steigerwald scored 2 goals.

Madeline Herodes, Madeline Noel, and Kiera Shanley each had a goal, Kaylee Steigerwald added an assist. Natalie Cassalia had 7 saves for the Hornets.
