Key defensive plays lift Liverpool baseball past B’ville 7-3

Local Sports

The Liverpool varsity baseball team is on its way to the Section III finals thanks to some key defensive plays helped lift the Warriors past Baldwinsville 7-3 at Onondaga Community College Thursday night.

Shortstop Jake Evans provided some highlights for the Warriors – namely a clutch out in sixth inning when he extended to snag a hard ground ball to the left of second base and threw out the runner at first.

Evans – who is headed for Binghamton University in the fall – went 2-3 with an RBI and two runs.

Liverpool provided some offensive support in the bottom of the sixth when Nick Antonello’s bunt enabled Thomas Bianchi to score.

Later, Zach Pieklik drove home Zach Sharett en route to the 7-3 win.

Liverpool will face Rome Free Academy in the finals.
