(SYRACUSE N.Y. – WSYR) – Just 17 seconds separated second-ranked Le Moyne from its first trip to the Division II NCAA championship game since 2016, but instead its season comes to an end in the NCAA semifinals.
The Dolphins were edged by six-seed Merrimack 15-14 in overtime, thanks to a goal from Christian Thomas 30 seconds into the extra period. Its the third time a game between these two teams was decided by one goal this season.
Former Marcellus standout, Matt Hutchings, led Le Moyne with 4 goals and 2 assists. The Warriors were led by 5 goals and 1 assist from Baldwinsville native Charlie Bertrand.
The Dolphins led by as much as two in the game and grabbed the lead with 26 seconds left on a goal from Hutchings, 14-13.
Merrimack’s Dom Thomas tied the game with a goal with just 4 seconds remaining, sending the game to OT.
Le Moyne finishes the season at 16-3. Merrimack is now 16-3 and will look to win its second straight national championship on May 26th at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.
