Syracuse Cougars claim boys Division-I State Championship

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - The Syracuse Cougars claimed the boys ice hockey Division-I State Championship with a 4-2 win over Suffern (Sec-I) Sunday at the Harborcenter in Buffalo.

Skaneateles won the Division-II title earlier in the day which marked the fourth time one section has swept both the D-I and D-II titles for the first time since 2004.

After a scoreless first period, Stephen Matro scored to help Syracuse take an early 1-0 lead.

Suffern answered quickly, but recent Athlete of the Week Phillip Zollo netted a goal. The Cougars took a 2-1 lead into the final frame.

Two more goals in the third period secured the state title for the Cougars.
