Syracuse falls to Pittsburgh for its second straight loss

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Syracuse suffered its second straight loss against heated rival Pittsburgh. The Panthers came into the Dome and pulled off a 27-20 win.

After Syracuse went into the half down 24-6, the game shifted early in the third quarter when Tommy DeVito left the game with an apparent injury.

Clayton Welch came on in relief and provided a spark with a 94-yard touchdown pass for the Orange’s first TD of the day to make it 24-13. Welch then connected with Aaron Hackett with less than three minutes to play in the fourth quarter on a 7-yard touchdown to make it 27-20. 

The Pittsburgh defense controlled the first half with 6 sacks.

The Orange were 2/9 on third down and amassed just 133 yards of offense. 

Syracuse (3-4, 0-3) will take on Florida State (3-3, 2-2) next week. Kickoff is at 3:30 p.m. with a channel to be determined.
