SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — A 72-year-old man is biking across the country to raise money for childhood cancer.
In 43 days, Charles Manzoni is biking across America, and Syracuse is the 3,000 mile mark. His ride coincides with tens of thousands of bikers taking part in the fifth annual “Great Cycle Challenge USA” helping to raise money to find a cure for childhood cancers.
Manzoni’s son fought through a rare form of cancer in 2011, now he’s doing whatever he can to help other kids win their fight, too.
“I had the time to do it and it’s turned out to be everything I expected and more. I mean, you get to see part of the country that you just never would driving a car or flying from major city to major city.”Charles Manzoni
This year’s goal for the cycle challenge is to raise $8 million for childhood cancer research. Manzoni has already raised more than $17,000.
