Alex Martin is excited to star as ‘Derek’ in a Yankees inspired stage musical called “Batboy: A Yankee Miracle” written by best selling artist Ray Negron.
The musical is based off of Ray Negron’s biography “Yankees Miracle: Life with the Boss and the Bronx Bombers” and is heavily inspired by Ray Negron’s life.
Negron’s story starts when Steinbrenner gives him a chance, Martin said. “He got caught spray painting at Yankee’s stadium in ’73 by [George] Steinbrenner, and instead of putting him in jail, he put him to work, Martin adds.
After asking Alex to write two songs for the musical, Ray decided Alex should play Derek, because of their resemblance. Since then they have been traveling the country and performing songs in many different locations.
For Alex, Ray is a mentor and offers him a lot of advice coming from similar back stories. Alex said that having Ray in his life as a mentor has helped him a lot, because he originally had not had that before.
As a native of New York Alex is excited to continue to meet passionate Yankees fans and to act in his first musical.
