SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Ronald Green, the man who brought his two-year-old son along as he drove William Wood from Chili’s restaurant in DeWitt the night Wood killed two workers, has pleaded guilty to robbery.

Green’s last-minute plea in Onondaga County Court, Monday morning, happened moments before jurors were about to be selected for his murder trial.

The deal removes the murder charge against Green in exchange for his cooperation against Wood in the federal investigation, from which Wood could face the death penalty.

Green was initially charged with murder, as he was accomplice to Wood’s robbery and deadly shooting.

Green will be sentenced on October 18 and spend between 17 and 20 years in prison.

Wood has admitted to shooting and killing Steve Gudknecht and Kris Hicks, both Chili’s employees.

Wood is currently serving a life sentence as he awaits facing the federal charges.
