Father of fallen Trumansburg soldier reflects on son’s life

(WSYR-TV) — The family of James Johnston is grieving the loss of their son and brother.

Johnston was an army soldier from Trumansburg. He wanted to defend his nation just like his father and relatives before him.

He was one of two soldiers killed recently in the ongoing war in Afganistan.

Johnston’s father, Richard, says he had a lot of love for his family, friends, and nation.

“Freedom isn’t free and we have to pay for it every day. Every day and the only people who are going to fight for our freedom are the men and women in uniform. Those are the true heroes,” Richard said.
