Fireworks safety advice from the Oswego Fire Department

Uncategorized

(WSYR-TV) — The 4th of July weekend is one of the busiest times of the year for firefighters, says the Oswego Fire Department.

According to the National Fire Protection Association, more fires are reported on July 4th than any other day of the year.

The Oswego FD advises the best way to enjoy fireworks and prevent injury is to watch a professional show.

“Consumer fireworks are dangerous and the risks to personal safety and the safety of the community are significant,” said Fire Chief Randy Griffin.

The fire department is reminding residents that while most fireworks are illegal in New York State, sparklers are allowed — even these can cause severe injuries and burns.
