SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and many were taken Saturday on Syracuse’s south side today as “The Stand” newspaper hosted its 10th annual photo walk!
The south side tradition recruits those interested in photography from all over Syracuse. Throughout the day participants explored neighborhoods, shot photos, and practiced their photography skills.
Stand director Ashley Kang tells Newschannel 9 as the event expands each year, more people are seeing what the south side has to offer.
“It just keeps growing. We’ve had people who have grew up here and [say]: ‘I want to see the neighborhood but it’s not safe right? Should I come?’ and then they come on the photo walk and they’re like ‘I met the person who lives in my old house!’ and ‘everyone was so welcoming and so nice!’ it just gets people to visit the neighborhood that usually wouldn’t and see it in a new way.” Kang said.
When the walk was over, participants were able to show off and share their favorite images taken.
