Major Hollywood Film Being Shot in CNY Is Looking for 2,000 Extras

If you ever dreamed of seeing your self on the big screen now is your chance. The biggest film to ever shoot in Syracuse is looking for thousands of extras to be in it. The movie will be shot in August and September for 35 days. The name has yet to be released but AND Casting by Annie Delano says anyone interested in being in a major Hollywood movie is encouraged to apply.

“We have a particular need for college-age students,” says Mary Driscoll, Marketing and Promotions Director for AND Casting by Annie Delano. “They have good flexibility, and it’s a chance for them to make a little money during college,” she adds.

The film is welcoming individuals of all ages, sizes and ethnicities. Driscoll says they need over 2,000 people.

American High Films are planning to shoot three more movies in Syracuse down the road, so if you’re not chosen for one film there’s a chance you’ll be picked for another.

“There will be a lot more opportunities coming up,” says Driscoll.

Stand-In and Background Extra Michael Waters delivered pizzas a year ago and has since been employed by the film industry after hearing about casting calls for American High’s feature film, Big Time Adolescents, starring Pete Davidson and Machine Gun Kelly.

An hour after Waters applied he got a call to be a stand-in for a character he looked like in the movie. Due to a lack of a diverse extras pool Waters also was the stand-in for Davidson and Kelly.

Waters got to know several people as an extra and stand-in, which allowed him to continue doing background roles in other films. Through those connections, Waters has been in charge of background actors for the past two projects he has worked on.

For many people looking to pursue careers in film, it can be difficult to decide whether to put their other jobs on hold.

“If you have a job that is lenient, say it’s not a full-time job, it’s a part-time job, you could leave for four or five weeks at a time and come back, then maybe that would be good,” says Waters. “I wouldn’t encourage someone to leave their job for the opportunity in one film because it will end,” he adds.

It can also be difficult for people pursuing careers in film to get their foot in the door.

“If you want a career in the film industry, the first thing you need to do is get on set,” says Waters.
