New York probation offices to screen youth for suicide risk

Uncategorized

NEW YORK STATE (WSYR-TV) — Probation offices across the state have started screening young offenders for risk of suicide as a way to connect them with mental health services.

Ten counties in the state are participating in the program, developed by researchers at Columbia University.

The project, called E-Connect, will mainly screen those 17 and younger.

Officials hope that addressing your offenders’ mental health needs will cut down their chances of getting in trouble in the future.
