SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — As families prepare to celebrate summer and the Fourth of July, Ronald McDonald House of Central New York is asking people to also include “Christmas in July” in their festivities.
The organization has been running the campaign for about 10 years because donations of all kinds drop off during the summer season.
“We find that the traditional holidays are really the busy time for in-kind donations, but about six months in, we’ve had many family members with receiving medical care in Syracuse and finding respite here at the Ronald McDonald House, so our supplies have been depleted,” said Beth Trunfio, executive director at Ronald McDonald House of CNY. “Imagine that your children are home for the summer or your grandchildren are visiting and staying with you for the summer. Your pantry gets raided all day long. Those are the kinds of items we are looking for.”
Food and drink items: Fruit snacks, granola bars, juice boxes, coffee, macaroni and cheese, non-dairy creamer, and individual snack bags of chips, crackers or cookies.
·Household items: Aluminum foil, disinfectant wipes, food storage containers, liquid hand soap, napkins, paper plates and bowls, plastic utensils, trash bags and Ziploc bags.
Children’s toys: Baby dolls, Lego blocks, Tonka trucks and cars, and popular toy figures.
Gift cards: Target, Walmart and Wegmans.
Trunfio says gift cards will be used to buy perishable items such as milk, bread and eggs.
A special “Christmas in July” event will be held on Thursday, July 25, at Ronald McDonald House, located at 1100 E. Genesee St. in Syracuse.
The community is welcome to attend the holiday-themed event while dropping off donations.
Donations are welcome all month and can be dropped off during the day. You can call (315) 476-1027 before stopping by.
