Cool, fall weather, about to take a hiatus: Dave Longley

Storm Team Headlines

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) For many people (myself included) fall is the favorite time of year.

We’ve already had some fall-like weather, with days with high temperatures in the 60s.

At times, the skies have had that “fall look” to them.

We’re now 2 weeks from the autumnal equinox, so this cooler weather has to continue…right?

Incidentally, the average temperature for September through the 8th was 2 degrees below normal.

Get ready, the temperatures are about to do a turnaround for the second half of September.

The forecast from the Climate Prediction Center for the second half of September is anything but cool.

The 8 to 14 day temperature outlook is for the entire country to be above normal.

I don’t think that means 90 degree warmth (although I suppose it’s possible).

Given our average high temperature by the end of September is 66°, I think it’s reasonable that we should see high temperatures in the 70s, with perhaps an occasional 80 degree day.

Just wanted to give you a heads up that the first 8 days of September (along with the end of August) are not an indication of temperatures through the rest of September.

Summer is hanging on.
