After a wet spring and start to the summer season, Mother Nature suddenly seemed to flip the switch once summer officially began June 21st for much of CNY.
Since June 21st, Syracuse has only picked up two tenths of an inch of rain in the last three plus weeks!
In July, Syracuse has only received a tenth of an inch of rain, while there are some spots of CNY like across the Finger Lakes that have picked up over 2″ and northern Oswego, Lewis and northern Oneida counties that have received 2 to 5+ inches of rain due to localized heavy rains from scattered storms the past 7 to 10 days. The majority of central New York, like Syracuse, hasn’t received much rain at all this month.
The welcomed rainfall deficit for the month of July in Syracuse is now exceeding an inch and a half and counting.
There is an increasing chance of some showers and storms beyond today, especially Wednesday thanks to some moisture from the remnants of Barry crossing Central New York. I think many are welcoming the drier than average first part of July and probably hoping it doesn’t change too much, but the browning lawns have other thoughts.
Wednesday will feature the best chance for a real soaking, with some tropical downpours probable too, which could even lead to a bit of localized flash flooding.
The temperatures have been quite warm so far this month in CNY! Over 3 degrees above average ranking it among the top 10 warmest Julys on record at about the halfway point in July!
It appears we will only see the average temperature go up even more so over the coming days as temperatures are expected to heat up through the this 3rd week of July!
